Verschiedenes: Fix for AutoStart issue not working on Windows 8

Beschreibung

We have implemented the fix supplied in:
FAQ: Autostart Problems after Windows Updates from February 2020 - Windows error message "We can't sign in to your account"

and it worked well on Windows 10 machines, but produces an error on our older Windows 8 kiosks. I don't have a screen shot, but the error suggests that the registry item that the fix is trying to update doesn't exist.

Any help here would be appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. The patcher application was also tested on Windows 8.1 and there is no known problem. Generally SiteKiosk 8.91 is out of support but here are some tips on what you could try:

First, download again the most current patcher exe and make sure it is executed in a Windows user account having full local admin rights:

https://www.provisio.com/download/useraccesspatcher.exe

Second, If that doesn’t help, you may recreate the SiteKiosk user account and then run the patcher application again:

To do so without reinstalling SiteKiosk you can proceed as follows.
- Login to the Admin account and make sure SiteKiosk is not running and that the SiteKiosk user is not logged in.
- Open the command line (cmd.exe) and enter the following commands one after the other

cd %SiteKioskPath% (or cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk")

SystemSecurity /uninstall

- First check whether a directory named "SiteKiosk" still exists under "C:\Users". If so, delete it.
- Go back to the command line and enter the following commands one after the other:

SystemSecurity /install

SystemSecurity /applydefault

- Run the patch: https://www.provisio.com/download/useraccesspatcher.exe

Third, completely reinstall SiteKiosk version you currently have (Add/Remove programs>>Change/Modify>>Remove>>Remove all created data)- https://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/VersionHistory.aspx, and run the patch: https://www.provisio.com/download/useraccesspatcher.exe. See Important folder locations:

- Configuration - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Config (*.skcfg files)
- Start Screen - C:\Users\Public\SiteKiosk\content (the entire folder).
- Media Content - C:\Program Files (x86)\SiteKiosk\Html (images, videos, html folders, PDFs etc.)

And last , you could update to the most current SiteKiosk version (updated license required): https://www.provisio.com/en-US/Downloads/Download.aspx?ItemId=1

Best regards,
Andre.
