Support Request: Site Kiosk crashing

Description

Hi,

We have an issue with a crashing sitekiosk.
This happened after we changed from internet explorer to chrome.(the website doesn't work anymore in internet explorer).
Unfortunately sitekiosk doesn't want to show the browser anymore if chrome is selected.
We get the error from the picture in the attachment and errors in the eventlog of sitekiosk/.net crashing.
See also txt file in attachement.
During the crashes the system is experiencing high cpu load.

Can you assist?

Hello,

Generally SiteKiosk 9.5 is out of support and on my Windows 10 (20H2) test system there was no issue when starting the actual SiteKiosk version 9.8.5658 with your SiteKiosk configuration.

But here some general hints:
The so-called emergency screen loads if SiteKiosk was restarted by the software watchdog (or for any other reason) 10 times in 1200 seconds.

If it happens in "Auto Start" mode first check this:

Otherwise I know of 3 specific cases where a problem may occur when starting SiteKiosk:
1. SiteKiosk was installed without the appropriate Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable (only happens if you use the MSI file instead of SiteKiosk9.exe, e.g. with Microsoft SCCM)
2. If you have reactivated the Windows account "Administrator" (with the name Administrator) and start SiteKiosk in this account
3. If you are connected to your computer via Windows Remote Desktop during SiteKiosk startup

Please check

If that doesn’t help you may try a repair installation first.
If you set restrictions via Domain or Group policies you need to check if that will stop SiteKiosk from starting.

Otherwise you should update to the most current SiteKiosk version and check again.

Note:
Generally the license you get is valid for the current version at the time of purchase + all versions that will be published within 12 month.
So you would need to purchase an update license for using SiteKiosk 9.8.
But you can also test everything before purchasing any license (on the same machine or on a separate machine)

I did a repair and increased the timeout value.
This fixed the issue.
