Support Request: Question about IE browser

Description

Godd morning,
our customer that has many sitekiosk installation told us that starting from netx months they stop to use internt explorer browser as company browser.
We don't know if they unistall IE from PCs or if they disable IE using some domain policies but we would like to know if they could have some problems using their sitekiosk applications.
The sitekiosk config has created using Internet Explorer as browser engine and Strat Screen Skin with Metro IE skin as browserskin.
WE are not sure what happens to their application if they uninstall or disable IE from PCs.
Could you please answer this question?
Kind Regards
Nicola

Hello,

As the IE Webbrowser Control requires the IE11, the IE based skis cannot work anymore if your customer blocks the usage the IE11.
If only the default browser settings are changed, but IE is still usable in principle, it should not be a problem.

Otherwise, you can switch to the Chrome Browser Skin in SiteKiosk. This skin uses a Chromium CEF browser engine installed with SiteKiosk.

Generally the „Internet Explorer 11 is a component of the Windows operating system and follows the Lifecycle Policy for the product on which it is installed.” – see:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/lifecycle/faq/internet-explorer-microsoft-edge

Hello Michael,
thank you for answer.

You told me: "Otherwise, you can switch to the Chrome Browser Skin in SiteKiosk. This skin uses a Chromium CEF browser engine installed with SiteKiosk."

But the Chrome Browser Skin you suggested doesn't have the "Start Screen Skin" like the IE browser engine has, right? So i should create a new config and design a new start screen skin to have the same result; i cannot use the existing one. I mean thet with the Chrome engine i haven't the choise of the start screen page that works in "C:\Users\Public\SiteKiosk\content"
This could be a big problem for us because we have a lot of installation.

Kind Regards
Nicola

Hello,

The Start Screen is also available with Chrome Browser Skin (Start Page & Browser-->Chrome Browser-->Start Screen). The content that is used is the same as with the IE Skin (there is only one content stored for the start screen that will be used in both cases).
So if you just switch to “Start Screen” with Chrome Browser Skin you also get the same Start Screen content displayed.

Hello Michael,
i have here in my office an old kiosk with an old version of sitekiosk 9.1 build 3345.
I would like to try your suggestion but i can't find the start screen if i select in Browser Engine: Chrome Browser in the skyn AREA i cannot find the start screen. I have some picture but i cannot upload theme here.
If i select IE in the Browser Engine, the Strart Screen skyn appear in the SKIN AREA.
Kind Regards
Nicola

Hello,

The SiteKiosk version 9.1 from 2015 is generally out of support.
The Start Screen with Chrome Browser Skin is available since SiteKiosk 9.2 (also out of support)
The actual, supported version is SiteKiosk 9.8.5547
Version History:
https://www.provisio.com/en-GB/Downloads/VersionHistory.aspx?Product=SiteKiosk

Generally the license you get is valid for the current version at the time of purchase + all versions that will be published within 12 month.
So you would need to purchase an update license for using SiteKiosk 9.8.
But you can also test everything before purchasing any license (on the same machine or on a separate machine)
