Support Request: White screen on load

Reproduction

Each time Site Kiosk starts in restricted mode, the blank white screen appears.

Hello,
Since last week, our kiosk has been booting up to a white screen when loading Site Kiosk. This only happens on the Site Kiosk restricted account. When I close out of Site Kiosk and open it in the test mode, my home screen loads fine and all the links work appropriately. I then exit the test mode and restart the pc from Site Kiosk so it can start up in the restricted mode, but when loading, the screen is blank and white. It blinks or refreshes like it attempts to load, but just reverts to a white screen.

This started happening with 9.1 and I noticed updates were available, so I updated to 9.2. The OS running on the pc is Win7 64 bit. The current version of Site Kiosk is 9.2 Build # 3595. I have attached the config file, so any information you could provide to help would much appreciated.

Are you using the Start Screen template under Basic > Start Page & Browser or another skin?

Are you able to replicate the issue if choosing the "Chrome Browser " templates?

Yes, I am using the Start Page template; dark blue background with "app" like icons for webpage links.

I am able to replicate the issue with Chrome. The issue still resides with the Restricted User Account for Site Kiosk not able to launch the Start Page properly. Also, we cannot use Chrome since some of the webpage links require ActiveX, Flash, or Silverlight and do not function correctly when using the Chrome browser.

It seems like the focus should be on the difference of running the SiteKiosk config on an Admin account in Test Mode rather than the locked down restricted user account.

Any further information you could provide would be most helpful.

- You mentioned that you started experiencing the current issue since last week.... I am assuming that this was working before then?
- Are you able to replicate the issue on a separate computer?

Did you just install the update on top of the 9.1 installation? I would recommend doing a full re-installation of the software to eliminate the possibility of corrupted files being carried over to the new installation.

I have tested SiteKiosk 9.2 3595 on a Windows 7 64 bit test machine and have not been able to replicate the issue you are experiencing.. (a bug in the software would be replicable on all installations).


To do a complete uninstall, go to add/remove programs in the Windows control panel select SiteKiosk and choose "Change" (not Uninstall) then choose the "Remove" radio button. Next check the box "Remove all created data" and proceed with the uninstall. This will remove all the SiteKiosk program files from your PC at which point you can reinstall.

If you are still experiencing the issue or able to replicate on another computer, you may send your Configuration file (This is the .skcfg file located at C:/programfiles/sitekiosk/config) to grant(at)provisio.com so I may take a look at your settings.

Yes, it had been working for 3-4 months with no issues. I have automatic updates turned off, so no changes were made to the machine as I am the sole IT contact here. I have not attempted to reproduce on another machine and I did install the update on top of the old version. I assumed it was more of a patch rather than a whole, full version.

I will attempt to uninstall (remove) and try again to see if I have further problems. I will let you know the results as soon as possible.

Thanks... reinstalling seemed to fix the issue.
