File Browser : The file browser on the left hand of the main window shows all the image content on your system in a tree view environment. After clicking the desired folder, its pictures are automatically stored as thumbnails in Pictomio's own database. The next time you click on the same folder there will be a very quick thumbnail display in the "Thubmnail View" window.
After storing thumbnail files in the database you can use the library button next to the browsing button to list your pictures by different fields like creation date, special categories or ratings. Use the library browser in order to group and sort your pictures. Keep in mind that the content in the file browser tree view is physically stored on your hard drive, while the content in the library browser is a kind of virtual storage place.

Menu Bar: The menu bar provides several options to handle Pictomio. Here, you will find different capabilities like importing pictures from your camera or any internal or external drive. Furthermore, you get editing functions, image printing support or the possibility to change the software settings.

Thumbnail View (Grid): On the right side of the main window is the thumbnail view and it displays thumbnails corresponding to the folders in the library or file browser list. Use the right scroll bar or click on your mouse wheel to navigate through the thumbnail section. Just click on a thumbnail to get a larger view of the image connected with further options.

Thumbnail Zoom Slider: Enlarge the thumbnail size by moving the zoom slider at the bottom right of the window.

Favorites: Use this field to gain quick access to your favorites image folders. Just click on a folder in the file or library browser and make use of the drag and drop option to place the folder into the favorites section.

View Mode Tabs: With these tabs you can switch between the “Thumbnails”, “Filmstrips”, “Single Image” and the “Carousel” view mode.
  • In the “Thumbnails” view, the image content in the grid is sorted in columns and lines. The “Filmstrip” view shows a column of thumbnails and a scalable view of the selected thumbnail.
  • The “Single Image” view just shows the selected thumbnail in a scalable image view.
  • In the “Carrousel” view mode, you can scroll through your photos quickly and easily by flipping through the 3D image carousel. Use your mouse to specify the direction in which you want your photos to move.

Image Group and Sorting: This section is divided in two different tabs, the “Group by” and the “Sort by” tabs:
  • The “Group by” tab gives you the ability to change the grouping criterion and order of your images. So you have the option to group your pictures by rating, date, pixel count or orientation.
  • The “Sort by” tab enables you to change the sorting inside the groups. Sort by name, date, file size, rating or view count.

Search Bar: You can enter search terms in the search box at the top right of the Pictomio main window. The text you enter is searched for in several attributes of the image files, e.g. filemnames, tags, categories, albums, description etc. Please note that it is currently only possible to search for the beginning of texts. The pictomio database does not yet a full text index that would allow you to search for individual words in the middle of image describptions.

Collapsibles: The collapsibles are divided in three different fields:
  • The “Image Info” collapsible gives you quick general information about the selected image in the “Thumbnail View”. It displays information about the image rating, the annotation, the image tags, the image categories, the album names, the filename etc.
  • The “Exif Data” collapsible gives you information about any info stored in the selected jpeg file when the image is recorded on your camera. Pictomio gives you also the opportunity to edit chosen exif attributes.
  • Use the “Index Status” collapsible to get information about database statistics, the memory status and the directory indexing progress.

Back and Forward Buttons: Make use of the back and forward buttons to toggle between your previous selections. You can go back to previous selections by clicking on the left button and go forward by clicking on the right button.
